Cheechoo scores big! by Steve Valerio, Communications Director Good things come to those who work hard, stay disciplined, and never give up on their dreams. On February 7th, Jonathan Cheechoo signed a five year contract extension with the San Jose Sharks, and was rewarded for all of his dedication and hard work. The kid from Moose Factory, Ontario, has proven that nothing can stand in your way if you are dedicated and determined to reach your goals in life. Cheechoo agreed to a long term deal with the Sharks instead of becoming a restricted free agent at the end of this season, which may have resulted in a bigger payday for Cheech. But like the good kid he is, Jonathan made the decision to stay in San Jose because the organization had faith in him, and had given him the chance to play in the NHL. He repaid the Sharks organization for having such faith in him by showing his faith in them. With the addition of Joe Thornton and the resigning of Evgeni Nabakov, the Sharks have shown they are dedicated to being a winning, competitive organization, which also made it easier for Cheechoo to sign a contract extension with San Jose. So while many players in Cheechoo's situation may have been looking to cash in on a big payday, Jonathan decided that there are many more important things in life than money when it comes to making big decisions. Besides, we all know San Jose is a nice place to visit in the winter time if you're from Moose Factory, Ontario. Those who come from Moose Factory to visit Jonathan can probably tell you that. So congratulations to Jonathan Cheechoo from everyone at Way to go Cheech! |
